The Azerbaijani National Independence Party picked its candidates in 60 constituencies, ANIP Electoral Secretary Rashad Bayramov told Trend today.

"Candidates were determined in 60 districts, but this is not the definitive list," Bayramov said. "The party has not decided on the candidates for all of the constituencies. Discussions are underway on who we will support during the elections."

Parliamentary elections will be held Nov. 7. Previous elections were held in November 2005. The elections are held by the majority system in 125 constituencies.

Bayramov also mentioned the criteria for determining party candidates.

"The ANIP's head office put forward certain criteria," he said. "Among them is the candidate's rating in his or her specific district."

The ANIP was established in 1992. Since 1995, the party has cooperated with the International Democratic Union, which unites 82 center-right parties from 63 countries. Former Chairman Etibar Mammadov twice ran for president. After losing in 2003, Mammadov resigned. Since that time, Ali Aliyev and Ayaz Rustamov served as party chairman. The ANIP held a congress July 10 and elected Yusif Bagirzade as the party's chairman.
