UNICEF holds workshop on juvenile justice in Turkmenistan

United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) jointly with the Turkmen National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights in the coming days will hold a workshop in Ashgabat on international standards of juvenile justice for civil servants, said in the organizers’ press release.

United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) jointly with the Turkmen National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights in the coming days will hold a workshop  in Ashgabat on international standards of juvenile justice for civil servants, said in the organizers' press release.

A similar event has recently ended in the regional center - in the city of Mary, in the east of the country. The workshop was organized for representatives of law enforcement agencies, local governments, health and education sectors' workers.

Participants will be introduced to methods of working with children, and focuses on rehabilitation and reintegration of juvenile offenders into civil society.

"The purpose of the workshops is to familiarize the participants with international standards, the processes of their implementation in practice and principles of work with juveniles who are in conflict with the law at every stage of the proceedings.

The workshops are held by international experts of the Essex Children's Legal Centre (UK).
