Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug. 24 / Trend T.Hajiyev /

The ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) said today that the media should not be blamed for the opposition's failure.

"The opposition has been engaged in opposition activity for 20 years," NAP Deputy Chairman, Executive Secretary Ali Ahmedov said at a roundtable on "Election Coverage by the Media," which was held by the OSCE Baku Office today. "If the opposition has failed to gain the people's support, it is, at the very least, shameless to blame the media."

"I believe that the state has created favorable conditions for the press to ensure the transparency of the electoral process, as well as public control over the electoral process," he added.

Ahmedov said that all of the country's political parties can present their platforms to voters during the electoral process.

Speaking at the conference, Isa Gambar, the head of the opposition Musavat party, said that the electoral law has both contradictions and gaps. He added that the opposition is not given enough airtime on public television.

In turn, opposition Popular Front Party head Ali Kerimli also stressed that the opposition does not receive enough airtime on television.
