The Azerbaijani Interior Ministry emphasized this week that mass meetings will only be allowed in predesignated areas in the run-up to the parliamentary elections.

"Mass rallies must be held in the specified places and with the relevant permission," Deputy Interior Minister Oruj Zalov said today during courses for district election commission members. "Police will ensure public order, and the rights and safety of participants."

Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are scheduled for Nov. 7. The elections are held by the majority system in 125 constituencies.

Zalov added that the ministry will take measures to prevent unauthorized rallies before and after the elections. The local police will be provided with the necessary instructions, he said.

The Baku Executive Power designated special locations in the capital for mass meetings and rallies in the law on freedom of assembly. The Executive Power advised to organize a rally at a stadium of a sports complex in Binagadi, or in the area of a driving school on the street Elchin Azizov, or at the site opposite the block 29/22 on Zig road.
