Azerbaijani border guards prevented 16 attempts to violate of the state border and arrested 29 people in August, the Azerbaijani State Border Service told Trend on Wednesday.
The border guards arrested 11 citizens of Azerbaijan, four each from Georgia, Iran and Afghanistan, three from Bangladesh, two Russians and one citizen of Kyrgyzstan.
About 80 people were detained irregularities of the border regime in 36 cases. Appropriate actions were taken in respect to those detained.
The border guards also arrested 79 wanted persons and handed them over to the law enforcement authorities.
The border guards discovered 8,378 eight kilograms of narcotics in 15 cases.
As a result of measures to combat smuggling, the officers seized smuggled goods worth about 264,000 manat in 68 cases, including one 9-mm pistol clip, three rounds for the pistol, other guns, three brass knuckles, three daggers, 1,221 boxes of cigarettes, 14 DVDs, 1,144 kinds of drugs, alcoholic beverages and food products.
