If Uzbekistan and the Turkic-speaking states have differences, they should be addressed directly, Turkish MP and Azerbaijani-Turkish Parliamentary Friendship Group Chairman, Mustafa Kavakci, said today.

Uzbek President Islam Karimov did not participate or send special envoy to the tenth summit of Turkic-speaking countries in Istanbul this week.

"Uzbekistan is one of the Turkic-speaking states whose role and contribution we always appreciate," he told Trend over the telephone. "If there is any disagreement with Uzbekistan, it should be resolved within the Turkic-speaking states framework."

"No country at the summit laid any claims to Uzbekistan. Rather, Tashkent sees the summit and the establishment of the Cooperation Council of the Turkic-Speaking Countries differently. This problem must be solved in the context of fraternal relations," Kavakci added.
