Azerbaijani Defense Industry Minister Yaver Jamalov has met with Deputy Defense Minister of South Africa Fezile Bhengu and heads of delegations from Belarus, Turkey and India at an exhibition of the defense industry products held in South Africa, the ministry told Trend.

Products made by the Azerbaijani Defence Industry were demonstrated at AAD-Afrika Aerospace Defence-2010 in Cape Town, South Africa on Sept. 21-25.

Sixty seven defense goods manufactured by ministry enterprises were demonstrated at the exhibition including small arms, ammunition of various calibers, mines of all sizes, rockets, electronic boards and others.

Matador and Marauder armored vehicles, jointly produced by Azerbaijan and the Republic of South Africa, were also demonstrated at the arms fair.

Azerbaijani military products, such as the 12.7-caliber, 14.5-mm Istiqlal sniper rifle, aroused great interest at the exhibition, which was attended by 323 leading companies from 36 countries, including leading arms manufacturers from the U.S., China, Turkey and South Africa.

The Istiqlal sniper rifle earlier caused great interest in the İDEF 2009 arms fair, held in Turkey, and SOFEX 2010 held in Jordan.

Civilian visitors were particularly interested in Azerbaijan's stand when the exhibition was opened to them on Sept. 25.
