Georgia will likely become a member of NATO and the alliance will help the country achieve this, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said today during a meeting with the speaker of the Georgian parliament David Bakradze.

Rasmussen said the decision NATO took at its Bucharest Summit to eventually admit Georgia to the alliance "is not questioned."

"Our decision is unequivocal and it will be fulfilled," Rasmussen said.

Rasmussen expressed his confidence in the effectiveness of the work carried out under the Georgia-NATO commission.

"Within this commission we will help Georgia to achieve NATO standards," he said.

Rasmussen reiterated NATO's commitment to Georgia's territorial integrity and demanded strict implementation of a ceasefire agreement dated August 2008 and the liberation of the occupied Georgian territories as a result of the Georgia-Russia war of that year.
