Action is underway to arrest Armenian citizen Mardun Gumashyan, who is suspected of organizing a gun attack on the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy in 2009 in which 12 people died, the Attorney General of Azerbaijan, Zakir Garalov, has told media.
Garalov said that investigators are working hard to detain Gumashyan, whose location is known. Gumashyan is also wanted by Interpol.
On April 30, 2009, gunman Farda Gadirov entered the Academy and opened fire on the university staff and students. As a result 12 people were killed and 13 injured. The case against Gadirov was closed due to his death.
But several people, accused of complicity in the crime, were arrested.
Amirov Javidan was charged under articles 214.2.1, 214.2.3 (terrorism), 120.2.1 (Deliberate murder committed by group of persons, on preliminary arrangement by group of persons, by organized group or criminal community (organization)), 120.2.1, 120.2.3, 120.2.4, 120.2.5, 120.2.7, 120.2.10, 120.2.11, 120.2.12 (premeditated murder under serious circumstances) 29,120.2.1, 29,120.2.3, 29,120.2.4, 29,120.2.5, 29,120.2.7, 29,120.2.10, 29,120.2.11, 29,120.2.12 (attempt to commit a crime with serious circumstances), 206.4 (trafficking by an organized group), 228.2.2, 228.3 (illegal purchase, possession and carrying of firearms and ammunition) and 234.1 (illegal purchase, possession and carrying drugs) of the Criminal Code.
Nadir Aliyev and Najaf Suleymanov were charged under articles 214.2.1, 214.2.3, 120.2.1, 120.2.3, 120.2.4, 120.2.5, 120.2.7, 120.2.11, 120.2.12, 29,120.2.1, 29,120.2.3, 29,120.2.4, 29,120.2.5, 29,120.2.7, 29,120.2.11, 29,120.2.12, 206.4 and 228.3, Gabulov Ariz - 206.3.2 and 228.2.1 of the Criminal Code.
The Serious Crimes Court sentenced Aliyev, Amirov and Suleymanov to life imprisonment. A fourth man, Ariz Gabulov, was sentenced to 11 years imprisonment.
