Parliamentary speaker: Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan to be held democratically, transparently and in accordance with int'l standards

The forthcoming parliamentary elections will be held democratically, transparently and in accordance with international standards and the international authority of Azerbaijan will further increase, Oktay Asadov, chairman of the Azerbaijani Parliament, said in an interview with the official website of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party.

The forthcoming parliamentary elections will be held democratically, transparently and in accordance with international standards and the international authority of Azerbaijan will further increase, Oktay Asadov, chairman of the Azerbaijani Parliament, said in an interview with the official website of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party.

"Today, Azerbaijan has taken all necessary measures for holding free, democratic and transparent elections," he said.

Parliamentary elections are scheduled for Nov. 7. Previous legislative elections were held in November 2005. Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are held by the majority system in 125 electoral constituencies.

Asadov said he considers the situation in the country is normal in the run-up to November's poll.

He said that both the political situation in the country and the availability of the necessary electoral legislation has created favorable conditions for holding free and fair elections.
