Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Mevlut Cavusoglu said he hopes for free, fair and democratic elections in Azerbaijan.

"As I said in April during my visit to Baku, it can be the best gift for the 10th anniversary of Azerbaijan's membership of the Council of Europe," Cavusoglu said at a press conference within the organization's plenary session, which has begun in Strasbourg today.

The parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are scheduled for November 7, 2010. Previous parliamentary elections were held in November 2005. Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are held by the majority system in 125 constituencies.

According to Cavusoglu, the organization will observe the elections.

"For this purpose, the observation mission will arrive in Azerbaijan a month before election day. Later we will get familiarized with opinions and assessment of the mission," he said.
