Georgia' entry into the European airspace will allow to strengthen the domestic economy, ensure free movement of citizens and attract more tourists and investments, Georgian Deputy Prime Minister Giorgi Baramidze said at conference in the Ambassador hotel on Oct.4.

The conference was devoted to preparing an agreement on Georgia's accession to the single European airspace.

Under the contract, Georgia, together with 26 EU member-countries, become part of a single European airspace.

The conference was attended by representatives of the Economy and Sustainable Development Ministry, and Georgian United Transport Administration and the EU representatives.

Deputy Economy Minister Archil Kekelia said Georgia will take appropriate legislation based on the Open Skies Treaty that will help develop and strengthen the competitiveness of this sector.

"Restrictions on flights to Europe will be lifted for the Georgian airlines, as well as more European airlines will begin to operate in Georgia, which in turn will increase turnover and competition, and it will impact the ticket prices," Kekelia said.

The EU representatives are also positive about Georgia's entry into the unified airspace.

"We will meet with the parties to the treaty and work to ensure that Georgia become more closel to the European family. Georgia must follow many more important obligations and we are ready to help Georgia in this," European Commissioner Klaus Gaile.

Georgia and the EU will sign the agreement on a common airspace this month. Prior to that, the working groups will work on the document.
