Gigi Tsereteli elected president of European Parliamentary Forum on Population and Development

Deputy Chairman of Georgian Parliament Gigi Tsereteli was elected the president of the European Parliamentary Forum on Population and Development (EPF). Executive Committee of the Forum in Brussels unanimously supported Tsereteli’s candidacy, the Georgian Parliament told Trend.

Deputy Chairman of Georgian Parliament Gigi Tsereteli was elected the president of the European Parliamentary Forum on Population and Development (EPF). Executive Committee of the Forum in Brussels unanimously supported Tsereteli's candidacy, the Georgian Parliament told Trend.

Since 2006 Gigi Tsereteli has been a member of the Executive Committee of this organization, since 2009 - vice-president. It must be noted that this is the first time when the EPF president is elected from the Eastern Europe.

Gigi Tsereteli's predecessor was Hilda Votman, the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Parliament of Belgium.

Two new vice-presidents - Deputy Chairman of Parliament of France Daniel Bosque and member of the House of Lords of England Baroness Jennifer Tonge were elected at the meeting.

The European Parliamentary Forum on Population and Development brings together the parliamentary groups of 27 countries. The Executive Committee includes 11 persons.
