Georgia has the right to have a defense system that will ensure its safety, Alexander Vershbow, Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security, told Georgian journalists.
Speaking after a meeting of the Charter on Strategic Cooperation between Georgia and the U.S. At which issues of security cooperation were considered, Vershbow said: "We [the U.S.] unambiguously support the reforms being implemented in the defense system of Georgia."
Vershbow noted the special role of the Georgian military in NATO operations in Afghanistan.
"The Georgian military play an important role there and are receiving invaluable experience," he said.
