Azerbaijan, Baku, Oct. 8 / Trend K.Zarbaliyeva /

Fifteen of the 45 members of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP), who had nominated their candidacy for the seats in the parliament out of the party's single list, have withdrawn their application, NAP Deputy Executive Secretary Siyavush Novruzov told journalists on Friday.

"Fifteen of the party's 45 members, who planned to contest the parliamentary elections on their own and put forward their candidacy out of the single list, have withdrawn their application. Of the remaining 30 candidates, only 16 completed petitions and submitted them to the Central Election Commission (CEC)," Novruzov said.

Parliamentary elections are scheduled for Nov. 7. Previous legislative elections were held in November 2005. Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are held by the majority system in 125 electoral constituencies.

Novruzov said 113 of the 115 party members have passed the registration in connection with the forthcoming parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan. The two candidates have withdrawn their candidacies on their own initiative, he added.
