Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Oct. 8 /Trend, G.Hasanov/

Making a speech at a meeting of the UN General Assembly, Turkmenistan's permanent representative Aksoltan Ataeva proposed to establish a high-level Forum on Security, Peace and Cooperation in Central Asia and the Caspian Basin, UN News Center reports.

It is about creating a UN system regulating political consultations at the highest level between the Central Asian and Caspian countries.

The diplomat called on to strengthen international cooperation in addressing non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, disarmament and arms control.

"For Central Asia and Caspian Basin, as a complete historical and geographical space, which now forms the major energy, transport and communications nodes, the disarmament issue is the most important activity of the UN," said Ataeva.

According to her, "it is appropriate to conduct the Forum on a regular basis, alternately in each country in our region". She declared readiness to host the first Forum meeting in Ashgabat in a reasonable timeframe.
Ataeva said the political or military security will not be long without ensuring the economic, energy and food security, and without an effective fight against international terrorism, narcotics, proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and other global challenges.
