Latvian President Valdis Zatlers is satisfied with the current level of bilateral relations with Azerbaijan.

The President met with Azerbaijani ambassador to Latvia Tofig Zulfugarov and expressed satisfaction with the current level of bilateral relations between the two countries. He appreciated the role of Azerbaijani first ambassador to the country, who is completing his diplomatic mission.

Azerbaijani ambassador was received by President Zatlers on the occasion of completion of the mission, the embassy told Trend.

Valdis Zatlers said that Azerbaijan is a friendly country for Latvia. The relations between the two countries rise to a higher level each year.

Azerbaijani ambassador expressed satisfaction with the conditions established in the country for the Embassy's activity. He thanked the government and non-state organizations for their support during their activity in the country.

Stressing the traditional friendly relations and effective cooperation between Azerbaijan and Latvia, the ambassador said that there is great potential for development of relations. He also noted that relations between the two countries have risen to the level of strategic partnership.

Recalling his state visit to Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's visit to Latvia, Latvian President stressed the importance of these visits. He stressed their role in the development of cooperation between the two countries. President Zatlers expressed his confidence that these relations will develop.

Latvian President thanked Azerbaijani Ambassador for effective activity and wished him success in his future work.
