Economic opportunities in Azerbaijan were presented in the Netherlands at an international conference involving the heads and representatives of the country's leading companies, state agencies and research centers.

Despite the global economic crisis, the economic situation in Azerbaijan is stable. The government continues to develop non-oil sector and the foreign investment reached $ 40 billion as a result of creating a favorable environment for foreign investors, Azerbaijani Ambassador to the Netherlands Fuad Isgandarov said at the conference, the embassy reported.

The diplomat highlighted the fact that Azerbaijan took 33rd place in a ranking of the international organizations for favorable conditions for foreign investment in 2009.

The presentation reflected the development of oil and gas sector and the issues of natural gas transit to the world market.

Christopher Van Agt, Head International Energy Program at the Clingendael International Energy Program at the Netherlands Institute for International Relations, informed the participants about geo-strategic situation in the Caspian Basin, in particular Azerbaijan, about the possibilities of transport of hydrocarbons in the region to world markets.
