According to the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, the country's parliamentary delegation visit to Astana focused on the implementation of the reached agreements on many projects.

"We discussed the construction of a railroad through the territory of Iran, which would open for Kazakhstan the shortest way to the Persian Gulf, as well as the grain and oil supplies, Ali Larijani, speaker of the Iranian parliament, said at a press conference in Astana.

Larijani is on a two-day official visit to Astana upon the Speaker of the Kazakh Senate Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's initiative.

"Kazakhstan and Iran are two great and important countries, each in its region: Iran in the Middle East, Kazakhstan in the Central Asia," Larijani said.

According to him, the two countries have close historical and spiritual ties.

During the Iranian delegation's visit to Astana, Larijani discussed with the Speaker of the Senate of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev issues of inter-parliamentary cooperation, harmonization of the laws of both countries.

According to Larijani, harmonization of Iran and Kazakhstan's laws would remove obstacles in the development of trade and economic cooperationand in the implementation of many profitable projects.

Larijani also met with the Kazakh Majilis Speaker Ural Mukhamedzhanov, Prime Minister Karim Masimov and Kazakhs President Nursutan Nazarbaev.
