St.Petersburg to discuss OSCE and CIS new opportunities and prospects

Within the OSCE Chairmanship the Kazakh Parliament adopted a decision jointly with the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly to hold an inter-parliamentary conference on the topic "OSCE and the CIS: New Opportunities and Prospects” in St. Petersburg, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for International Affairs, Defense and Security Amzebek Zholshybekov said today at a briefing.

Within the OSCE Chairmanship the Kazakh Parliament adopted a decision jointly with the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly to hold an inter-parliamentary conference on the topic "OSCE and the CIS: New Opportunities and Prospects" in St. Petersburg, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for International Affairs, Defense and Security Amzebek Zholshybekov said today at a briefing.

The conference is scheduled for October 25. The parliamentary delegations of all the CIS member states, as well as partners, representatives of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-speaking countries, as well as the leadership of several international organizations, including the EurAsEC and SCO are invited to the conference.

"So far, more than 300 representatives of the mentioned organization have confirmed their participation in the conference. Over 30 participants who have already submitted applications are expected to address the conference," Zholshybekov said.

He said the conference will be attended by the Azerbaijani MP.

Besides the main plenary session the conference will consist of three sections. The first section - "Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian security" is expected to discuss the European Security Treaty, the situation in Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, protracted conflicts in the post-Soviet space, non-proliferation of mass destruction weapons.

The second section -"New architecture of economic world order" will be dedicated to the global financial and economic crisis, integration in the post-Soviet space, customs union, new OSCE's Bonn Document, climate change, transport and energy policy.

The third section will be dedicated to one of the direction of OSCE activity - "The Human Dimension", the session will discuss issues of tolerance, electoral standards, freedom of movement and the liberalization of visa regimes, gender equality and labor migration.
