Kazakhstan toughens punishment for rape of minors

Kazakhstan recorded over 80 cases of sexual assault against minors in 2010, the Kazakh 'Sem' television channel reported with reference to the prosecutor general's office.

"Based on the data of the prosecutor general's office, more than 80 cases of sexual abuse against minors were recorded in 2010. Nearly half of these cases were disclosed. About 10 cases were suspended due to failure to reveal perpetrators," the channel reported.

The channel also provided the statistics on the Article of "corruption of minors."

"The country recorded about thirty cases of corruption of minors in nine months of 2009. The Ust-Kamenogorsk region police are still looking for a criminal attacking on schoolgirls in dark doorways," the channel reported.

The Kazakh Senate sent back for reworking a bill on toughening penalties for rape of minors.

Senator Gani Kasimov personally made eight amendments to the document. He proposes only right decision - to ban all people imprisoned for pedophilia, to work in schools and orphanages. However, the bill provides for a ban ranging from 10 to 20 years.

"Earlier, criminals were sentenced to shooting for this. Now Europe develops regulations for the castration of such criminals, but we give them a chance," Kasimov said.
