Azerbaijani, Georgian FMs consider Union of Georgian Muslim Believers' appeal

Georgia, Tbilisi, Oct. 15 / Trend N. Kirtskhalia /

Azerbaijani and Georgian foreign ministers considered the appeal of the Union of Georgian Muslim Believers.

"We have considered all important issues for Georgia and Azerbaijan", Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze said at a joint press conference in Tbilisi with his Azerbaijani counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov.

He was commenting about the appeal sent by the Union of Georgian Muslim Believers to the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister.

In this appeal Akhund Rizvan Almazov, a member of the executive body of the Union, called on the Azerbaijani authorities to protect the rights of Georgians living in the Gakh region of Azerbaijan. "The rights of Azerbaijanis are not restricted and are not violated by religion and ethnicity in Georgia. We pray in our mosques freely (...). The local authorities and law enforcement agencies have repeatedly caused problems to Georgians living in Saingilo as opposed to us. Georgians living in Saingilo are not allowed to freely enter and pray in the Gurmukh Church of St. George. We call on Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov to raise the issue of restraint of pressure on Georgians, living in Saingilo, at the governmental level, " the Union said.

"We have considered all disputable issues. But you may not ask me to report on them", Vashadze said.

After the meeting with Georgian Foreign Minister, Elmar Mammadyarov went to Marneuli District, which is densely populated by Azerbaijans, to meet with representatives of the diaspora.
