The festival of friendship of the Turkmen and Uzbek peoples has been opened today in the Dashoguz region in Turkmenistan.
The cultural event was launched on the eve of Uzbek President Islam Karimov's official visit to Turkmenistan scheduled for the next few days.
Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov addressed the welcoming statement to participants of the festival.
The message noted that "Uzbek-Turkmen friendly and fraternal relations will now gain even deeper meaning. We have a huge, untapped possibilities and potential of large-scale expansion of bilateral cooperation for the interests and the benefit our peoples".
"Very much links Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. It is, above all, common historical and spiritual roots, culture, traditions, customs, family ties, closeness of language and mentality," he said.
The festival will be attended by musical and theatrical groups, as well as representatives of culture and art. There also will be held a joint exhibition of masters of fine and decorative arts, unique museum exhibition and demonstration of Turkmen and Uzbek films.
