The Azerbaijani ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) refused from a free airtime provided for the pre-election campaign.

"Due to the fact that over 60 candidates from the Party have been registered, we get a right for free airtime. But the NAP refused from the provided free air time, since we hold equal struggle and want to show that our candidates outperform their competitors," NAP Deputy Executive Secretary Siyavush Novruzov told the party's official website on Monday.

Based on the electoral legislation of Azerbaijan, a free airtime maybe provided to the parties that have put forward more than 60 candidates.

Parliamentary elections are scheduled for Nov. 7. Previous legislative elections were held in November 2005. Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are held by the majority system in 125 electoral constituencies.
