The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry urged the country's citizens to demand security guarantees when applying to the embassies to obtain visas to foreign countries.

"It would be nice if the citizens demand a security guarantee when applying to the embassy of the foreign country," Ministry Spokesman Elkhan Polukhov told Trend.

Azerbaijani pilgrim Intigam Rustamov died and Elvin Aslanov, Elchin Abdullayev and Elchin Abdullayev got injured when Hyundai bus carrying the Azerbaijani pilgrims was blown up by a land mine in the Iraqi province of Diala on Oct.13.

This is not the first tragic incident with Azerbaijani pilgrims in Iraq. In January, a bus with Azerbaijani pilgrims was shot near the Iraqi city of Kerbala. As a result, a 16-year-old girl was killed and three others were injured.

Polukhov said Azerbaijani citizens visiting Iraq must understand that they endanger their lives.

"Nevertheless, we can not prohibit our citizens to visit this or any other sovereign state," he said.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry calls on the country's citizens to refrain from trips to Iraq, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan.
