Azerbaijan and Ukraine agree to cooperate in defense in 2011 (PHOTO)

Ukrainian Defense Minister Mikhail Yezhel signed a plan of bilateral cooperation in defense for 2011 with Azerbaijani counterpart, Colonel General Safar Abiyev today, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Mikhail Yezhel signed a plan of bilateral cooperation in defense for 2011 with Azerbaijani counterpart, Colonel General Safar Abiyev today, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said.

The same cooperation plan for 2011 was signed by the Ukrainian side with the Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan, RBC-Ukraine reported.

The relevant documents were signed in the Crimea during the 59-th meeting of the Council of Defense Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). A delegation of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, headed by Yezhel, participates as an observer there.

The sides discussed ways to expand and intensify bilateral defense cooperation, especially in the field of military education and science, the exchange of students and cadets of higher military educational institutions, the use of modern technologies in the educational process during bilateral meetings.

They also discussed the possibility of exchanging experience in peacekeeping operations between military of the armies of the CIS member-states, in which Ukraine has great experience.

Another topic of the conversation were the issues of repair, renovation and modernization of armament and military equipment of Soviet samples, which are adopted by the CIS countries, the repair facilities of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence and enterprises of the military-industrial complex of Ukraine.

It was reported that the defense ministers of Ukraine and the Russian Federation Mikhail Yezhel and Anatoly Serdyukov intend to sign the "Protocol between the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence and the Russian Ministry of Defence to inform about the total number of personnel and major weapons of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in the territory of Ukraine" at a meeting of the Council of CIS Defense Ministers in Yalta on Oct. 20.
