CEC Chairman: It is inadmissible to humiliate candidates’ honor and dignity during free air time in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, Oct.22 / Trend, T.Hajiyev /

It is inadmissible to humiliate a candidate's honor and dignity by another candidate during free air time, the Central Election Commission chairman Mazahir Panahov said today at the CEC meeting.

"One cannot abuse air time. We earlier said candidates can regulate their times as they want, but they cannot say anything they want. It is inadmissible to humiliate candidates' honor and dignity during free air time," Panahov said.

One of the candidates from the 55th Khachmaz Constituency appealed to the CEC because his opponent humiliated his honor and dignity during free air time. The CEC considered the appeal and sent to the district electoral commission to investigate.

In addition to opportunities provided by the law for parliamentary elections, the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan (CEC) has decided Oct.15 to provide candidates free air time and place for publication in periodicals.

Fee airtime for pre-election campaign is provided on the Nakhichevan TV channel for candidates registered on the constituencies in the territory of the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic, while for candidates of other 118 constituencies on Public TV (İTv). A four-minute free air time will be allocated for each registered candidate to organize a roundtable of candidates.

The parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are scheduled for November 7, 2010
