The Azerbaijani authorities are interested in holding democratic, transparent and free parliamentary elections, Oktay Asadov, chairman of the Azerbaijani parliament, said at a meeting with the mission of observers to the parliamentary elections of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, the official website of the Azerbaijani Parliament reported.

The Azerbaijani authorities are interested in holding democratic, transparent and free parliamentary elections, Oktay Asadov, chairman of the Azerbaijani parliament, said at a meeting with the mission of observers to the parliamentary elections of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, the official website of the Azerbaijani Parliament reported.

"All necessary measures were taken to hold elections in a democratic and transparent manner," Asadov said.

He said that the Azerbaijani Parliament has made several changes to the legislation of the country. It continues to conduct purposeful activity for the conformity of laws with European standards to intensify democracy in the country.

Asadov expressed confidence that the OSCE mission will observe the elections in the country with an objective position.

Audrey Glover, the head of the mission, said that the organization has already submitted a preliminary report on the registration of candidates. She said that members of the mission continue to monitor the pre-election campaign.

The questions of members of the OSCE observation mission were specified at the meeting.

The parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are scheduled for November 7, 2010.
