Kazakh Parliamentary Speaker Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev has today received new Azerbaijani Ambassador to Kazakhstan Zakir Hashimov, the Kazakh parliament reported.

Tokayev congratulated Hashimov on his appointment and wished him success in his diplomatic mission.

Noting the commonality of views on a wide range of issues of the international policy, active promotion of economic cooperation and political ties, Tokayev said Kazakhstan is interested in further strengthening of the bilateral relations with Azerbaijan.

Tokayev called for intensifying the inter-parliamentary cooperation and reiterated his invitation to his Azerbaijani Counterpart Ogtay Asadov to pay an official visit to Kazakhstan.

He also thanked the Azerbaijani side for its support to the initiatives of Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the OSCE and contributions to the establishment of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Turkic-speaking states (TurkPA) initiated by President Nursultan Nazarbayev.

Tokayev also noted the fruitful cooperation of the parliamentarians in the Parliamentary Assembly of OSCE and CIS IPA.

Kazakhstan will head the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) in 2011, which is "an occasion for active interaction between the two countries within this organization", Tokayev said.

Hashimov said he stands for "the further strengthening of bilateral relations between the two brotherly peoples, who share centuries-old historical, cultural and spiritual roots".

The Azerbaijani-Kazakh inter-parliamentary friendship group operates under the Azerbaijani parliament.
