More than half of all traffic accidents recorded in Baku was related to the knocking down of pedestrians.

Since early 2010, 352 (51.7 percent) of the 681 reported traffic accidents are related to the knocking down of pedestrians, Baku State Traffic Police spokesman Jamshid Hanifayev has told Trend.

As a result of such accidents, 108 (50.9 percent) pedestrians were killed and 278 (42.1 percent) - got injured.

During this period, the traffic accidents in Baku killed 212 people and wounded - 660. The police recorded 398,047 traffic violations.

The violations are related to driving under the influence of alcohol - 7,668, the creation of an emergency situation on the road - 2,834, disobeying police - 1,644, passing at red lights - 11, 817, driving a car without state number - 694, violation of rules for the passenger transportation - 2,290, auto- hooliganism - 410, driving without a license - 8.736 and installing car films - 4,510.
About 9,842 traffic violations were committed by pedestrians.

The number of traffic accidents decreased compared to early 2010, but the number of deaths resulting from traffic accidents slightly increased, Hanifayev said.
