Ex-Parliamentary Speaker and Democratic Movement - United Georgia Party Leader Nino Burjanadze believes the normalization of relations with Russia should be one of the main activities of any political party that aspires to power in Georgia.

"I do not posses any "exclusive right" to establish relations with Moscow, but I advise other parties not to ignore the Russian factor," Burjanadze has told Trend.

Burjanadze noted that even before she spoke about the possible positive steps by Moscow, but she did not regard proper to make them specific.

"After the meetings with top Russian officials, I knew the country would made not only serious positive statements regarding the settlement of relations with Georgia, but also take concrete steps such as, for example, the withdrawal of  the Russian troops from Perevi," she said.

Russia reported about the withdrawal of the Russian troops from the Perevi region in mid-October. The decision was taken at the 13th round of the Geneva talks on security and stability in Transcaucasia.

The Perevi village is located on border of the Java region of South Ossetia and the Sachkhere region of Georgia. The Georgian Foreign Ministry regarded the withdrawal of the Russian troops from the Perevi village as a step made in the right direction, but just a miniscule step in comparison with commitments envisaged by the ceasefire agreement. Police and observers of the European Union have already arrived in the village.

"I am confident that this positive may become even more pronounced, if the Georgian authorities go to rapprochement [with Russia]," Burjanadze said, adding that she does not expect anything positive from the current Georgian government.
