A group of Kazakh MPs on Wednesday expressed concern to Prime Minister Karim Masimov over frequent involving of children and adolescents in various religious sects, criminal organizations, drug abuse and gambling.

Reading out a request to the Prime Minister at the plenary session of the parliament, MP Bagila Baimagambetova reported that there is no specific program in the country that could help young people to resist involvement in the above-mentioned negative social phenomena.

She said that the national budget allocates huge funds to fight the drug addiction to several ministries, including the Interior Ministry, the Health Ministry, the Education and Science Ministry.

"It deals with the fact that each agency works separately. There is no single coordinator, purposeful work," she said.

MPs appealed to the Prime Minister to consider financing of the program of the National Research Center on Addiction. It proposes to implement a specific scientific program.

"This program is designed for three years. It envisages rendering primary and special aid for people with psychological, drug addiction," she said.
