The opening of the British Embassy's new building in Tbilisi demonstrates that the UK places immense importance on developing ties with Georgia, Ambassador Judith Gough said today.

The opening of the British Embassy's new building in Tbilisi demonstrates that the UK places immense importance on developing ties with Georgia, Ambassador Judith Gough said today.

"The opening of the new building is evidence of the great importance that the UK attaches to its relations with Georgia," he said. "My embassy will continue to deepen our bilateral relations, in particular, commercial ties."

The official opening ceremony will be held in Tbilisi today. Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, who is the member of the British royal family, has arrived in the country to attend the event.

During his visit, Prince Edward will meet with representatives of the Georgian government and British businessmen working in the country. He also will acquaint with the work of the local office of the BP company, the EU monitoring mission and the British Council.
