President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has chaired a meeting aimed at discussing a prospective plan of developing the Baku subway, AzerTAj state news agency reported.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has chaired a meeting aimed at discussing a prospective plan of developing the Baku subway, AzerTAj state news agency reported.

The President said important projects were implemented to develop Azerbaijan`s transport infrastructure, adding the work in this regard was being successfully continued.

The Head of State said the transport sector was developing both in the capital and in the regions, noting the construction of state-of-the-art bridges, overpasses and roads was in progress.

President Ilham Aliyev said big funds had been allocated from the state budget every year to develop the road infrastructure, adding all this was aimed at ensuring the comfortable and safe movement of the population.

The President also highlighted the work to modernize the road infrastructure and eliminate traffic jams.
The Head of State said subway played a key role in the transport system.

President Ilham Aliyev said subway was an important part of the city transport, noting the fact the prices for this kind of transport were being kept low contributed to developing social issues.

Other speakers at the event included chairman of the Azertunelmetrotikinti OJSC Shafig Afandiyev and chairman of the Baku Subway Taghi Ahmadov.
The meeting featured discussions on priority directions of the Baku subway system and concrete issues regarding the work in this regard.

The President was informed of schemes of the development plan of the Baku subway and the proposed directions of the subway lines.

The Head of State stressed the importance of defining priorities of the development plan, which, he said, must be implemented on a state-by-stage basis.
