Russian expert: Azerbaijan fulfills all standards of democratic procedures in elections

The voting is running in a quiet atmosphere in Azerbaijan, the member of the Russian Vestnik Kavkaza information and analytical agency's observation mission, member of the Trend Expert Council and deputy dean of the history department at the Moscow State University, Alexei Vlasov, told journalists today.

The voting is running in a quiet atmosphere in Azerbaijan, the member of the Russian Vestnik Kavkaza information and analytical agency's observation mission, member of the Trend Expert Council and deputy dean of the history department at the Moscow State University, Alexei Vlasov, told journalists today.

"There was a high voter turnout in the polling stations, where we made observations," Vlasov said.

"Yet, the middle and older generation are taking active part in the polls," he said. "The youth is more likely to be active to the afternoon."

According to Vlasov, all the standards of democratic procedures have been performed. No offenses were recorded during the observation.

Azerbaijan has today launched the parliamentary elections at 08:00 [local time].

The Azerbaijani Central Election Commission reported that 690 candidates are running for the parliamentary elections.

Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are held by the majority system in 125 constituencies. Previous parliamentary elections were held in November 2005
