Azerbaijani Consul General in Los Angeles Elin Suleymanov and Vice Consul Ramil Gurbanov visited San Diego this week.

The officials visited San Diego upon the invitation of Switzer residents,who are interested in establishing bilateral relations with one of Baku's districts, the consulate general reported.

The diplomats met with the San Diego Public TV Channel and also studied the work of the Public architectural group, which specializes in designing public buildings and parks.

Speaking at a meeting with San Diego State University, Suleymanov underscored the age-old traditions of tolerance in Azerbaijan and emphasized the country's leading role in the region. He also stressed Azerbaijan's policy of intensifying the dialogue between cultures and civilizations.

During the visit, the diplomats also took part in an event dedicated to Azerbaijani culture at Cafe 21. The greetings of San Diego official Ron Roberts and San Diego City Council member Todd Gloria were read at the event. In the statement, Gloria lauded Azerbaijan as the first democratic republic in the Muslim world and declared Azerbaijan Day in San Diego's third district.

Earlier, Suleymanov spoke at the European Union Center at Scripps College in Claremont, California. In his speech, the diplomat highlighted the importance of refusing ethnic radicalism, chauvinism, and double standards to help Azerbaijan integrate into the European space.
