Azerbaijani Consul General in Los Angeles Elin Suleymanov and Vice Consul Ramil Gurbanov have visited Arizona.

The diplomats attended a joint workshop with the Arizona's Chamber of Commerce in Phoenix. The sides exchanged their views on the development of the non-oil sector in Azerbaijan, including alternative energy sources and new technologies.

Within a number of lectures on Azerbaijan held by the Consulate General at U.S. universities, Suleymanov spoke to Arizona State University in Tempe and the University of Arizona in Tucson. The diplomat stressed that Azerbaijan's leadership is pursuing an independent political course. He noted that the country is building its policy on energy security and regional integration on the basis of a long-term vision of pragmatism and the Azerbaijani people's national interests.

This is one of the characteristics of a successful, independent country. Stressing that Azerbaijan is reliable in partnership, Suleymanov underscored the importance of strategic partners like the United States reciprocating such an approach.

He added that despite the danger posed by the illegal occupation of Azerbaijani territories for peace in the region, the international community does not use all existing possibilities for resolving the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The diplomat also spoke about the purposeful policy of the Azerbaijani leadership in disseminating principles of tolerance and dialogue between cultures. At the same timehe stressed that all parties must renounce radicalism and double standards.

Their visit was covered in the local press.
