Georgian ambo tries to raise relations with United States

Top priorities for Georgia include implementing the Georgia-United States Charter on Strategic Partnership and intensifying relations between the two countries, former Georgian Reintegraion Minister Temur Yakobashvili said this week. Yakobashvili's candidacy has been proposed as the next Georgian ambassador to the United States.
He told media today that he aims to create a new strategic level of Georgian-U.S. relations.
Yakobashvili's candidacy was announced on Saturday. Before his candidacy is sent to parliament for approval, his possible appointment will be discussed by the legislative body's committees.
"The charter is not only a political slogan," he said. "Much must be done to implement it."
He noted that his diplomatic activity will aim at achieving the deoccupation of Georgia and the rapprochement of Georgia and United States in terms of security issues.
The charter provides for expanding partnerships and cooperation between the two countries in defense, security, economy, power engineering, democratic reforms, diplomacy and culture.
