Azerbaijan, Baku, Nov.22 / Trend M. Aliyev /

The Azerbaijani Central Election Commission (CEC) recognized the election results in 46 polling stations as invalid.

"After the voting day, the CEC considered appeals in connection with the parliamentary elections, and decided to annul the election results in 46 polling stations in 20 constituencies," CEC Chairman Mazahir Panahov said today at the commission's final meeting.

Azerbaijan held the elections on Nov. 7.

Meanwhile, CEC Secretary Natig Mammadov stressed that the current elections were marked by a number of innovations, including free airtime for all of candidates. He also noted that the opposition had more candidates than the ruling party in the elections.

CEC member Mikail Rahimli said the elections were held at a qualitatively higher level than previous elections. He added that, at the same time, the system for considering appeals received by the CEC on election day should be improved by the next elections.

Speaking at the meeting, CEC member Ogtay Humbatov said the practice of providing free airtime to all of the candidates was successful and should be applied in the future.

The CEC is expected to adopt and submit the election results to the Constitutional Court today.
