Invitation of the Georgian President's to the European Parliament before the EU-Russia summit is a clear signal that the development of good neighborly relations with Russia will not happen at the expense of its neighboring countries, including Georgia, Georgia's ambassador to Belgium, Salome Samadashvili believes.
The Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili on Tuesday will deliver a speech before the European Parliament in Strasbourg. President Saakashvili's meeting with EP President Jerzy Buzek is also scheduled. Address of the head of state, which is not EU member, before the European Parliament is a very rare phenomenon.
"We are given the opportunity to appeal to the European Parliament today, when Europe holds serious discussions in connection with future EU-Russia relations, in particular, when the EU-Russia is being prepared", Samadashvili told journalists.
The next Russia-EU summit will be held Dec.7 in Brussels. The summit will discuss the prospects of introducing visa-free regime between the EU and Russia, a new Agreement on Partnership and Cooperation, as well as climate change problems.
