The Iranian "Jamaran" destroyer will soon set sail for the first time in international waters, Iranian Navy Political Control Command head Salajege Ansari was quoted as saying by ISNA today.

"The destroyer will launch into international waters for the first time on Nov. 28 -- the anniversary of the navy's formation," Ansari told reporters.

The country will also hold a ceremony dedicated to the opening of several new naval military facilities, he said. However, Ansari refused to provide more details on the issue.

Jamaran was designed and manufactured by Iranian experts. The Fars news agency has called the ship the country's "biggest defense project."

"Jamaran is capable of hitting targets on the water, underwater and in the air," the news agency reported earlier. "The destroyer can accommodate helicopters on board."
