Georgia, Tbilisi, Dec. 8 / Trend N. Kirtskhalia /

Georgian ambassadorial candidate to Azerbaijan Teimuraz Sharashenidze said today that ensuring the "dynamic development" of Georgian-Azerbaijani relations would be his main task as the country's ambassador in Baku. He made the statement today at a meeting of the Parliamentary Relations with Compatriots and the Diaspora Committee.

The committee considered the ambassadorial candidates to eight countries. Konstantin Kavtaradze was nominated to the post of ambassador to Sweden. He previously led the diplomatic mission in Poland. Nikoloz Nikolozishvili, who was former ambassador to Slovakia, was nominated to the post of ambassador to Poland. Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Nalbandov was nominated to the post of ambassador to Slovakia. Mamuka Zhgenti will replace Zurab Chiaberashvili in the Council of Europe and Chiaberashvili will be appointed as the ambassador to Switzerland. In addition, Georgia will have new ambassadors to Portugal and Egypt - Goga Gorgiladze and Archil Dzuliashvili.

"Georgian-Azerbaijani relations are characterized by dynamism, which can be said to be an achievement of our two leaders, and my goal is to support this dynamic - even more so, because our countries have many common interests," he told Trend.

According to Sharashenidze, these common interests concern both bilateral and multilateral relations.

"This concerns the political aspects of our cooperation, as well as our economic interests and cooperation within GUAM," he said, noting that he will "make all efforts to develop these relations."

"Georgia has not had an ambassador to Azerbaijan for more than a year, and, therefore, in case of approval, I will start working as soon as possible," he said.

Sharashenidze previously served as the consul general to Turkey. The Georgian parliament will vote on the ambassadorial candidates on Friday.
