Indian President Pratibha Devisingh Patil plans to soon pay an official visit to Turkmenistan, according to a letter addressed to Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov.
"Thank you for your kind invitation to visit Turkmenistan and I hope to pay a visit to your country at the earliest possible time," the letter stated.
Patil also said Berdimuhammedov's visit to New Delhi in May was "successful."
India is interested in building a gas pipeline from Turkmenistan through Afghanistan and Pakistan. The relevant parties involved in the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India natural gas pipeline project reached agreements at an intergovernmental level at the Ashgabat summit in December. The pipeline's design capacity could reach 30 billion cubic meters of gas a year.
Patil also pointed out that he "fully supports the views on the availability of opportunities for further expanding mutually beneficial relations in all spheres of interest."
