The situation in the Georgian army causes concerns, former Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze said in an interview with weekly "Asaval-Dasavali".

"Three people were detained for negligence, but I think it's not just negligence and carelessness; the problem is that professionals were removed from Georgian army," Shevardnadze believes.

Shevardnadze pointed out the fact that training of military staff is a complicated process and professionals cannot be dismissed from the army. "According to my data, suicide cases have become more frequent in the Georgian army, which was not observed in my presidency, although the army had just formed then," he stressed.

Shevardnadze advised the current authorities to look closely at the professional level of officials in the Georgian Defense Ministry.
