Former Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze does not advise President Mikheil Saakashvili to speak with Moscow using ultimatums.
"Saakashvili's statement that Russia must begin negotiations with Tbilisi without preconditions is an ultimatum, but one cannot speak with Russia in this language," Shevardnadze said in an interview with the weekly Asaval-Dasavali.
"One cannot speak in this language with Russians and it is impossible if we want to restore our territorial integrity," he said.
Shevardnadze said that "whatever it takes, it is necessary to restore the dialogue with Russia." "If we are able to restore good relations with Moscow, I do not rule out that Russia itself will help us to restore our integrity," the former president said.
