EU Special Representative for South Caucasus Peter Semneby considers the settlement of the Georgian-Russian relations is possible only through dialogue. He sated about this at today's final briefing for the Georgian media in Tbilisi.
Semneby's five-year service as the EU Special Representative for South Caucasus will expire on Feb.28.
"Only a dialogue is the path that can lead to long-term stability in the region. In this connection, we can only welcome the efforts of the Georgian president, who expressed readiness to begin talks with the leaders of Russia," Semneby said.

He stressed that the EU is ready to fully assist Tbilisi in this way.

Semneby also stressed that the solution of conflicts in Georgia lies in the negotiations with the separatist regimes in Sukhumi and Tskhinvali. "The Georgians and Abkhazians, Georgians and Ossetians have to sit down at a negotiating table and solve all the problems around this table, there is no other way of settlement," he said.

Semneby believes both sides must compromise in an attempt to ensure peace and stability in the region. "It will be impossible to achieve the desired without compromise. The EU is ready to contribute to this process and try to bring the parties together by all means," he said.
