U.S. delegation confirms importance of electoral environment agreement in Georgia

A U.S delegation has confirmed that an agreement between the opposition and the Georgian authorities on the improvement of the electoral environment must be achieved as quickly as possible, leader of the Free Democrats Iraklia Alasania said after meeting with U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Tina Kaidanov.

A U.S delegation has confirmed that an agreement between the opposition and the Georgian authorities on the improvement of the electoral environment must be achieved as quickly as possible, leader of the Free Democrats Iraklia Alasania said after meeting with U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Tina Kaidanov.

Alasania said that the Georgian public and the international community are waiting for this agreement.
"Our community must be informed about it and have a sense of complicity," he said. "The U.S. side said that this issue will be discussed with the authorities."
Leader of the Christian-Democratic Movement Giorgi Targamadze said that the opposition is interested in the changes in the country.

"We intend to continue working actively and to achieve a normal election environment," he said.

The U.S. State Department's delegation arrived in Tbilisi today.
Meetings of the working group established under the Georgia-U.S. Strategic Partnership Charter are being held within the visit.

The Georgian opposition also familiarized Kaidanov about the negotiations to change the electoral environment.
