Ashgabat, Bucharest sign intergovernmental agreements

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov held a signing ceremony for bilateral agreements in Bucharest during his official visit on May 11-13, the Turkmen government reported on Friday.

The following agreements were signed: a protocol of the second meeting for the joint Turkmen-Romanian intergovernmental commission on cooperation in economic and scientific-technical areas; a protocol on the cooperation between the Turkmenbashi Port Administration and the national companies Sea Ports Administration, Constanta and Romania; an Action Plan between the Turkmen and Romanian Foreign Ministries for 2011-2012; and a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in scientific and technological areas between the Turkmen Academy of Sciences and the Romanian Ministry of Education, Research, Youth and Sports.

In addition, the Turkmen President Berdimuhammadov and Romanian President Traian Basescu adopted a joint statement on the results of the talks. A solid package of agreements was signed on cooperation in the humanities.

The agreements include a protocol on the cooperation between the Turkmen Academy of Sciences and the Romanian Academy; an agreement on cooperation between the Turkmen Polytechnic Institute and the Ploiesti Oil and Gas University; a memorandum of cooperation between the Makhtumkuli State University of Turkmenistan and the Babes-Bolyai University; and a memorandum of understanding between the History Institute of the Turkmen Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Turkic and Central Asian Studies of the Babes-Bolyai University.
