On Friday, were held political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and India, reported Trend with reference to press service of MFA AR.

The Azerbaijani delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov. The Indian side was represented by a delegation headed by State Secretary of the States of the East of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sanjay Singh.

The sides noted the interest in expanding ties in many sectors, especially in the fields of politics, economy, trade, petrochemicals, agriculture, culture, education and energy. At the same time there was an exchange of views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Deputy Minister Khalafov informed the Indian side about the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and its settlement process. While stressing that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to relations with India and the importance of expanding the existing contacts, Khalafov noted the role of inter-parliamentary relations in the development of bilateral relations.

Secretary of State for East countries Sanjay Singh reiterated that India supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and the delivered congratulations of the Government of India in connection with the 20th anniversary of independence of Azerbaijan.

The parties have unanimously approved the initiative to hold celebrations in both countries in 2012 to mark the 20th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and India. In addition, a conviction that would benefit from the mutual holding Days of Indian Culture in Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan in India was reached.

At the meeting the sides exchanged views on the establishment of cooperation in information and communication technologies between the two countries. Also discussed the agenda for the next meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission, scheduled for November this year.

At the same time an agreement was reached to accelerate the harmonization of bilateral documents aimed at expanding the legal basis of agreements between the two countries.

The sides positively assessed the activities aimed at promoting trade relations between the two countries, steps are taken to protect bilateral investments, coordination of projects to eliminate double taxation.

The sides consider appropriateness of the conduct of activities aimed at development of North - South transport corridor .
