Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has today received a delegation headed by the EU Special Representative for South Caucasus Philippe Lefort.
Lefort congratulated the Azerbaijani side with its election to the UN Security Council for 2012 - 2013 and wished success. Lefort said that this is great success for such a young country like Azerbaijan, the Foreign Ministry said.
Lefort also stressed opportunities for cooperation between the EU and Azerbaijan.
Expressing gratitude for the congratulations, minister expressed confidence that Azerbaijan will effectively and actively participate in resolving global and regional issues.
Mammadyarov said that Azerbaijan previously participated in various humanitarian missions and attaches great importance to cooperation with international organizations. He stressed that Azerbaijan has a rich culture. Minister expressed confidence that Azerbaijan will contribute to the development of multiculturalism in the world.
Minister stressed that the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is the priority of foreign policy. He informed Special Representative that this conflict is the biggest problem for Azerbaijan. Minister added that the biggest obstacle in resolving this conflict is the occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenian armed forces.
The sides exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
